She started as an apprentice to one of the industry’s best and quickly distinguished herself with a combination of innate talent and impeccable technique. It was only a matter of time before Susanna Romano and two like-minded peers would collaborate to open their vision, Salon A·K·S. Her take on hair is fresh and dynamic—“A great haircut is modern, has movement and enhances a client’s total look.” It is this combination of ease and talent that sustains Susanna's popularity with celebrities and New York City's elite, including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Claire Danes, Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington.

Full Disclosure
It’s clear that Susanna was destined to cut hair. “Haircutting is in my blood. I got my first taste of the industry when I was 13 and assisted my mother, who was a hairdresser.” Six years later, Susanna joined New York City’s elite Frederic Fekkai Salon where she quickly progressed training under Fekkai himself. Recognizing her skill, Fekkai named Susanna the first woman to his elite group of Hair Designers.

The Total Look
“I think a person’s hairstyle makes the most immediate and impactful impression and I love being a part of the process,” says Susanna. As a student at Parson’s School of Design, Susanna studied the role that different design elements play in an overall aesthetic. Her philosophy is that a successful haircut is one that complements an individual’s personality, tastes and lifestyle.

When working with clients Susanna is always motivated to help them achieve effortless style that enhances their natural beauty. “I truly believe in beauty at every age. My goal is to help my clients embrace who they are, be trend aware and make trends work for them,” says Susanna. Susanna teaches her clients to tweak trends to suit them and their lifestyle in a more organic manner.

In addition to her work at Salon A·K·S, the busy mother of two spearheads PR efforts for the salon and its talented team of beauty experts. Well respected in the media arena, Susanna always has tricks, tips and trends at the ready for women of all ages, hair types and lifestyles. She has also brought her talent to editorial work for major women’s magazines like Vogue, Allure and Seventeen, celebrity bookings and fashion shows. Other credits include: recognition as the “Best Hairstylist” in New York Magazine’s “Best of New York” issue and guest appearances on popular television shows including “The View.”
